Hi,
I am using Vista Beta 2 via MSDN on a Sony Vaio VGN-A517B which has in built bluetooth by Toshiba.
Vista has found the device and reported it as 'UGX' but cannot find any software for it. If I try and load the software for XP I get an installation error regarding services in the .inf file.
Has anyone come across this problem or know where I can get updated drivers as Toshiba / Sony have no information at all.
Thanks
Vortal

Bluetooth not found - device reported as UGX
I've got one idea, but it's sort of risky and may not yield any results. Do you know who manufactures your Bluetooth device? (e.g. Broadcom or someone else. My old dongle was manufactured by Cambridge Silicon Radio.) You should be able to figure out the manufacturer from the properties of the device in Windows XP.
Go into your Device Manager and go to the manual driver selection for your BT device. Pick Bluetooth Radios as the category, and try out a device that sounds similar. e.g. if you have Bluetooth 2.0 and a Broadcom device, select the Bluetonium 2035, and if you have Broadcom and Bluetooth 1 only, select the other Broadcom.
this is the situation I was in. Broadcom manufactures my laptop's Bluetooth adapter. The driver is identified as "Acer Module" as an "Other" device, but by following these instructions I got it to work. These instructions might not work for you and following them might cause problems, so be careful & don't blame me if something goes wrong. Your laptop may not have the same BT module, especially if it's older/doesn't have Bluetooth 1.1, and Windows Vista might not have compatible drivers -- so you MAY be wasting your time.
Anyway, here are the instructions I used to get my Bluetooth module working in my laptop, which is an Acer Asprie 5672. (MS staff-- if any watch this newsgroup-- is there a way to get the INF file changed so that it identifies Acer's BT module?) May 16
Ferrari 4000 & Bluetooth in Vista
Adding Acer Ferrari Bluetooth support in Vista Beta 2
Go to Device Manager in Control Panel Find the Acer Module with the ? next to it...this is the Acer Bluetooth Module Update Driver Select Broadcom's Bluetonium 2035 from the Manual List of drivers Bluetooth support will now install and be available to you in Control Panel

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-SZ140P that Vista Beta 2 also reported the Bluetooth controller as 'UGX' and was unable to find a driver.
I did something similar to Matt and forced the driver manually and so far it seems to work.
Here's my steps:
Start->Control Panel->Device Manager Right Click 'UGX' device with the ? next to it. Choose 'Update Driver Software...' Choose 'Browse my computer for driver software.' Choose 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.' In the left window click on 'TOSHIBA' In the right window click on 'TOSHIBA Integrated Bluetooth 3' Click Next.

It auto-magically installs the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator as well. It seems you can then add devices and ports via the control panel applet.
I have yet to figure out how to turn off the Bluetooth radio other than just disabling it in the Device Manager and that doesn't seem to turn off power to the controller or turn off the indicator light. I've tried to install the Sony Mobile Utilities which include the wireless switcher, but that was a no go.
I'll report back if I make any more progress.
